I used "Denver gable" trim design, but this on a wood garage, with 2圆 rafters and 1 foot overhang on the rake/gable end. I compensated (with new measurements and started differently ) on the other roof side, towards the house, and it came out perfectly (for the trim piece, on gable end ) This screwed up the far end, where my trim was to miss the bump (corrugation ), Had to flatten it with 2圆, covered with a tee-shirt and beat down with a sledge hammer (as seen on a you-tube video ) It seems that I lost a little of the 36" width, on every panel, we layed down, with the sealant in the overlap joint. Just got done with Dad's garage (26 gauge metal ), even after all my measuring, still had to cut some metal. Using 2 - 22' 2X12's so i was going to have to cut a foot off each of them, so it will be easy enough to frame out to 42' 2". Going to put the ledger board up tomorrow. Thanks for the reply! I can easily add 2 inches to the width. Posted 22:35 (#2558593 - in reply to #2558502) Subject: Re: Metal roofing measurement question

I have several buildings that I built 2" over for that exact reason. You can not absorb the extra 2" without trimming. If you have the option, frame it up to the 42'2". Question is do I frame it up 42'2" wide to allow for the 1" of metal that will not overlap on the ends? I assume you would want a rib on the outside instead of trimming it off to have an even 42' width. I plan on using the gable trim on the ends so i won't need any overhang. I am planning on a 42' X 24' open front with end walls. I am going to add a lean-to on the gable end of my shop.
